Software Development Engineer II
July 2017 - Present
Alexa Cloud Platform team.
Re-architected the Alexa Cloud platform to enable delightful multi-device experiences, including features such as I/O decoupling, named-device targeting, multi-room music, 3P distributed audio, group targeting, and visuals targeting.
Designed, developed, and launched services that enable customers to, via a VUI and GUI, implicitly control any Alexa-connected device in their environment, including Echo, 3P AVS, Fire TV, Smart TVs, and Smarthome devices. These are low latency, highly available services that serve billions of requests daily.
Served as an operational readiness bar-raiser. Reviewed service and feature launches within Alexa to help ensure that teams were operationally prepared to launch. Facilitated blameless post-mortems for customer-impacting outages.
Software Development Engineering Intern
June 2016 - September 2016
Mobile Identity Services team.
Designed, developed, and launched an event-driven Transaction Intent Verification service. This provides out-of-band authorization for high-risk transactions conducted on Amazon. Verification channels include push notifications, SMS messages, phone calls, and Alexa. It serves as a safer replacement for the older OTP authorization system, which was susceptible to phishing attacks.
Built an internal dashboard to monitor all customer verifications conducted by the TIV system.
Tools used included: Java, AWS DynamoDB/SNS/SQS and IVONA text-to-speech.
Freelance Software Engineer
October 2014 - May 2017
While I was a university student, I worked on numerous freelance projects for a few companies. Below are some examples.
Labspend: designed, developed, and launched the frontend and backend for the consumer and vendor webapps. Using Python, Scrapy, and Selenium, built a distributed scraping network of servers that mine, manage, and clean chemical purchasing data.
Univeristy of Michigan CAEN: refactored and migrated on-site hosted web services to AWS. Lowered hardware costs, increased service availability, and simplified deployments.
Apptopia: Built a distributed scraping service that gathers SDK data for every app on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Exposed this data with a RESTful API.
